CARTA celebrates National Transit Driver Appreciation Day

March 21, 2017

Today, the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) honors its 137 drivers on national Transit Driver Appreciation Day. The celebration recognizes hardworking bus and rail operators across the country and encourages passengers to give special thanks.

To show appreciation this morning, CARTA held a recognition ceremony for Leon Smalls, a seven-year driver who has received the most customer compliments over the past year and continues to demonstrate excellence.

“I’m just doing my job,” said Smalls, “It’s humbling to be honored among fellow drivers in Charleston and kind words from passengers always mean a great deal.”

“We’re extremely thankful for Leon and all CARTA drivers that make the Charleston area a better place to live,” adds CARTA Chairman Mike Seekings. “The community leans on these drivers every day and we’re proud of all they do.”
