Charleston businesses incentivize public transit with CARTA Commerce

September 7, 2016

The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) announced that six local businesses have joined CARTA Commerce, a new campaign to incentivize public transit and reduce congestion in the Lowcountry.

“Companies that buy into alternative modes of transit are part of the solution to mitigating traffic woes, reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing Charleston’s livability,” said CARTA Chairman Mike Seekings “We applaud these groups for leading the effort and expect to literally drive new business into their shops.”

Participating businesses and incentives include:

Money With A Mission, an investment advisory firm, is offering a monthly bus pass for any new client.

The Codfather, a traditional English fish and chips restaurant in North Charleston, is offering a free drink with purchase to customers with a valid bus pass.

Affordabike, a local bicycle shop downtown, is offering $5 off bike service to those with a valid bus pass.

Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, a non-profit dedicated to engaging children’s potential, is offering $1 off admission to those with a valid bus pass.

Blue Bicycle Books, a locally owned bookstore is offering 10 percent off purchases to those with a valid bus pass.

Cooking Carolina, a food truck and caterer specializing in BBQ, is offering a free drink with purchase to those with a valid bus pass.

“We support CARTA Commerce because public transportation helps the environment and is critical if we want to continue to enjoy the quality of life we’re used to in Charleston,” said Brady Quirk-Garvan, a Business Development Associate at Money With A Mission.

CARTA Commerce is an ongoing project to reduce congestion in the Lowcountry in which participating businesses provide a discount or benefit of their choosing to customers with a valid CARTA pass. In return, participants will receive a CARTA Commerce decal and social media promotion. There is no cost to participate.
