Palmetto Association for Children and Families Director of Policy and Research elected to statewide task force

The Palmetto Association for Children and Families (PAFCAF) announced that Megan Branham, the Director of Policy and Research, has been elected to the South Carolina Children’s Justice Act Task Force. Ms. Branham was elected earlier this year, prior to the reviewal and implementation of the task force’s 2017 annual survey report.
The Children’s Justice Act is a federally funded program that provides grants to states to develop, establish, and operate programs designed to improve the investigation, prosecution, and judicial handling of cases of child abuse and neglect. The Task Force, operated out of the Children’s Law Center at the University of South Carolina, specializes in conducting assessments of the state’s systems every three years and then produces recommendations in these areas.
“The addition of Megan to this Task Force is a huge honor for our Association,” said Erin Hall, PAFCAF CEO. “Megan is an amazing addition to this group of dedicated individuals. The task force has done an incredible job so far, and we are thrilled that Megan will be able to lend her expertise and talents to their efforts moving forward.”
Members serve on the task force for three-year terms. Over the next few years, the Task Force hopes to improve the quality care given to all children in South Carolina.
Over the last decade, Ms. Branham served various roles in family and children focused non-profits throughout South Carolina. In these various roles, Ms. Branham has helped spearhead initiatives and advocate policies specifically focused on improving the lives of children throughout the state. Throughout her career, she has successfully lead policy initiatives benefiting children and youth, implemented programs to improve maternal and infant health, and facilitated community efforts to prevent teen pregnancy.
She will continue these effort to improve the quality of care of South Carolina’s children, during her tenure with the Task Force. Ms. Branham earned a Masters in Social Work from the University of South Carolina, is a Licensed Master Social Worker, completed the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Leadership Institute for State-based Advocates with 13 policy colleagues from across the country, and prior to joining PAFCAF, served as Director of Policy at Children’s Trust of South Carolina.

The Palmetto Association for Children and Families was created in 1986 to unite the diverse agencies who serve children and families in South Carolina and give them a place to exchange ideas, gain knowledge, and work to address issues related to the quality of care given to children and their families. Member agencies have the ability to serve approximately 3,500 children at any given time. The challenges of caring for these children are great. The Palmetto Association for Children and Families works to promote the best care possible for children.
