Owen of Morton & Gettys joins York County Community Foundation Board of Trustees

ROCK HILL, SC – Elizabeth Smith Owen, a partner at the law firm Morton & Gettys, has been appointed to the York County Community Foundation Board of Trustees.

Established in 1988, the foundation’s goal is to increase charitable giving resources in the community. The organization began with a single $10,000 grant and has grown to manage 82 funds worth a total of more than $15 million.

The 17-person board includes members from many professions, from school officials to financial experts. Its task is to oversee the activities of the foundation, including communications , fund-raising, and finance.

The foundation awarded more than $28,000 in grants last year to York County organizations. It also distributes more than $1 million in college scholarships annually.

A veteran lawyer, Owen’s practice at Morton & Gettys focuses on family law, education law and personal injury. She’s active in other community organizations as well, including the board for the Early Learning Partnership of York County.
