Big Freedia Headlines Indie Grits River Concert at the River

COLUMBIA, SC – Indie Grits Film Festival, the Southeast’s premier film and culture festival in Columbia, S.C. for DIY media-makers announces that Big Freedia will headline the Indie Grits Concert at the River, on Saturday, April 16. In celebration of the 10th annual Indie Grits (April 14-17, 2016), the River Concert, and all other festival events, is free and open to the public.
Big Freedia, often called “Queen of Bounce,” is at the forefront of the Bounce rap movement, a subgenre of hip-hop born in New Orleans. She tours all over the country and has performed at several festivals, including Hangout Fest, SXSW and Bonnaroo. Most recently, Big Freedia, who grew up in and is based in New Orleans, was featured in Beyonce’s “Formation” video. The artist also has a reality television show, “Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce,” on Fuse.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Big Freedia to Columbia and Indie Grits,” said Seth Gadsden, co-director of Indie Grits. “Bounce is exciting, and she puts on an incredible show.”
Additionally, the free River Concert, at Bicentennial Park just off of Gervais on Gist Street, will also feature several other bands and performers all day long. Stay Tuned to IndieGrits.com as more bands are announced for the Concert at the River.
Because of the 2016 festival’s “Waterlines” theme, Indie Grits plans to highlight the incredible asset that our riverfront offers through this event. In addition to the concert, Waterlines will allow artists and media-makers to document and interpret the historic flooding South Carolina experienced in October 2015 and other water-related storylines through events at the festival.
Thousands of locals and visitors alike who attend the festival will experience four full days of the best short, experimental, animated and student film from novices to experienced filmmakers, music, food and outside-the-box artistic performances from South Carolina and the Southeast. MovieMaker magazine has twice named Indie Grits one of its Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World. New this year, and in collaboration with Southern Exposure at the University of South Carolina, GRAMMY-nominated Eighth Blackbird will perform their Hand Eye project with site-specific live performance visuals featuring new work from past Indie Grits filmmakers.
