Colite chosen by American Airlines for international sign rebranding

November 10, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Colite, a global signage company headquartered in Columbia, SC, was recently selected by American Airlines as a primary signage provider for the airline’s massive rebrand. To date, Colite has fabricated and installed new signage for American at 127 terminals, 86 cargo sites and 15 hangars spanning 20 countries.

Colite was first chosen by FutureBrand, the national rebranding company that designed American Airlines’ new logo. FutureBrand hired Colite to produce multiple rounds of prototypes used for ensuring brand guidelines at every American site.

The sheer size of the project dictated that American choose a partner with the ability to manage a global program. Colite’s global network of manufacturing and installation partners, combined with its senior project managers’ skill in handling all aspects of pre-installation prep, logistics, permits, site notifications and rigorous timelines, made the sign company a perfect fit.

“This project was unique because American Airlines is one of the world’s most iconic ‘American’ brands of our time,” said Bryan Gause, Colite’s Senior Project Manager. “The expansiveness of this project was also a challenge, not only in terms of the number of locations, but also by the variation of sign types.”

Size was a factor not only in the project’s expansive scale, but also physically, as signs ranged from extremely large lettersets (in some cases over 30 feet tall), to specialized digital “Precision Cloud” print seen in the airline’s terminals.

“We are proud to play an important role in modernizing this American icon,” said Marty Brown, CEO of Colite. “In the end we were able to simplify this effort for our client by managing cost, ensuring timelines and standards were met and delivering quality and brand consistency of the new American logo.”
