Habitat for Humanity Greenville County dedicates home to Acevedo Family

On Friday, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County dedicated another home for the Acevedo family in the Grace Point community.
This is the eighth home to be dedicated in the Grace Point community where Habitat has built six new homes and rehabbed two homes. The neighborhood, when completed, will be home to thirteen families.
Like all Habitat Greenville program participants, the Acevedo family has completed 25 hours of homeownership education classes as well as 250 hours of “sweat equity,” working on their home and the homes of other Habitat homeowners. They will pay an affordable mortgage for the home.
Friday’s dedication is a significant milestone in the Acevedo family’s journey to home ownership. The family has been living in a three-room apartment for over ten years with unpredictable utility bills and a myriad of neighbors in and out. They began turning the air conditioning off in the summer when the electric bills rose to over $300 per month.
When they sign the mortgage to purchase their new house, they will be able to move into an energy-efficient, affordable home and enjoy it for years to come. The family’s message to Habitat supporters and volunteers: “Thank you for helping build dreams!”
