Tenth Annual Radiothon benefiting GHS Children’s Hospital to be held August 3 and 4

August 3, 2017

The tenth annual Children’s Hospital Radiothon, presented by Entercom Upstate, will be held on August 3 and 4.

The live broadcast can be heard from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on each of the seven Entercom stations: 106.3 WORD, ESPN Upstate, Classic Rock 101.1, 93.3 The Planet, Magic 98.9, B93.7 and 96.3 The Block.

More than $2.6 million has been raised for Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System (GHS) through Radiothon over the past nine years. The money funds many of the support services offered by Children’s Hospital to make hospital stays less scary for patients and families, including facility dogs, blanket warmers, distraction therapies, sleeping chairs for parents and Camp Courage scholarships for patients with cancers and blood disorders These services are considered part of the Dream Gap, the array of services not covered under a normal operating budget.

“The money Entercom Upstate raises helps purchase items that help children understand their medical experience, allows them to express their feelings about their diagnosis or treatment – or just be kids even while they are in the hospital,” said Emily Durham, Child Life Services Supervisor. “Together, we become a community who are caring for these young patients by making sure they have the medical care they need – but also that something ‘extra’ that supports their emotional well-being.”

Throughout the two days of Radiothon, the on-air personalities will share stories and interviews with patients and families who have been served by GHS Children’s Hospital’s Bryan NICU, Children’s Emergency Center, Children’s Hospital Outpatient Center, Bi-Lo Children’s Cancer Center, and other programs and services. Radio listeners are encouraged to consider donating to GHS Children’s Hospital through a call-in number.

Entercom Upstate is one of the largest partners of GHS Children’s Hospital. In addition to Radiothon, their support includes toy drives and ticket sale donations.

“Entercom Upstate hosts Radiothon every year and we couldn’t ask for better partners than GHS Children’s Hospital,” said Devon van der Merwe, General Sales Manager at Entercom Upstate and Radiothon Ambassador. “Entercom is the largest radio group in the Upstate, reaching over 720,000 listeners every week, so what better way to give back to our listeners and our community’s children, than through this two day event that supports such a fantastic organization. We are very proud of the work that has been accomplished in the past decade with Radiothon and look forward to bringing more support for decades to come.”

Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) is also a sponsor of the 2017 Radiothon, and hosted a “Face of the Drill” contest for GHS Children’s Hospital patients in which patients were invited to design a face for the cartoon mascot of ReWa’s upcoming Dig Greenville project. The contest winner will have their artwork featured on much of the Dig Greenville promotional material, and will be announced on air during Radiothon.

“We are excited to support the 2017 Radiothon and absorb the creativity of the youth in the Upstate. Long-term, this group will benefit from our Dig Greenville project years into the future,” said Ashley Rhinehart, Public Relations Coordinator for ReWa. “Multifaceted engagements, such as the face of the drill contest, can be the key to a successful and positive experience for everyone in our community.

GHS Children’s Hospital serves all of upstate South Carolina, western North Carolina and eastern Georgia. The money raised during Radiothon impacts more than 400,000 visitors each year.
