Metromont Corp. relocates Charlotte operations to Upstate South Carolina
November 6, 2017Metromont Corporation announces that it plans to move its Charlotte operations to its upstate South Carolina facility. This announcement follows Metromont’s recent $8.8 million investment into the expansion of its Greenville County operations.
In 2015, the company purchased the 95-acre property of the former Metromont Materials in Spartanburg, S.C. which currently produces much of their structural product. More recently, the company announced its intent to purchase an additional 22 acres of land surrounding their Greenville plant which will allow them to further expand their operations.
“While we’ve seen much success with our Charlotte plant over the years, we feel that consolidating our North and South Carolina operations into one central location will allow us to improve our production efficiency and quality control and ultimately, better serve our customers,” says Chuck Gantt, Vice President & General Manager of the Carolinas.
Along with the expansion, Metromont’s Greenville facility will receive a new, state of the art batch plant. Further renovations include an updated carpentry and steel fabrication shop equipped with the latest machinery.
“The important thing to note is that our product mix has not changed. We are still in the architectural precast concrete business and will continue to serve the Carolinas and Georgia,” says Steve Babcock, Director of Business Development, Carolinas.
Metromont hopes to have the transition from Charlotte to Greenville, including the transfer of employees and equipment, completed by July of 2018.
“On behalf of the Metromont family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for our associates in Charlotte and for their years of loyal service,” says Rick Pennell, Metromont’s President & CEO. “Business decisions that directly impact our employees and their livelihood are extraordinarily difficult. However, this is a necessary transition for the long-term success of Metromont.”
Metromont Corporation purchased its Charlotte plant in 1995. Since then, its provided architectural precast concrete for more than 400 projects. A few well-known projects include Hearst Tower, Mint Museum, and the Nascar Hall of Fame.
