November 7, 2011Doug Erwin behind the naming of Loggerhead Apparel’s new ‘Hartwell Sunset Orange’ Bellwether Polo
GREENVILLE, SC – November 7, 2011 – Last month, South Carolinabased clothing company Loggerhead Apparel launched several new products, among them a new Orange polo. The company has historically named eachcolor in its lineup after Southern icons or wildlife, such as SouthernMoon Pink, a jellyfish found in coastal waters, and Edisto Blackwater, after the Edisto River, the longest blackwater river in North America.
To allow fans to get in on the fun, Loggerhead Apparel held a contestto name the new Orange. With more than 100 entries, and hundreds morevotes, the winning name – Hartwell Sunset Orange – was submitted byrecent Clemson graduate Doug Erwin.
Erwin felt that ‘Hartwell Sunset’ accurately reflected the burningorange hue, and also gave a nod to two Upstate South Carolina icons –the town of Clemson, and beautiful Lake Hartwell. For his efforts,Erwin, who now lives in the Washington D.C. area, received one of thevery first Hartwell Sunset Orange Bellwether Polos off the line.Co-Founder of Loggerhead Apparel Sara Painter, also a graduate ofClemson University, said ‚We’re so proud to have a Carolina native andfellow Clemson grad win the contest, and couldn’t have hoped for abetter name.‛

One a product of the Lowcountry, who grew up onthe coast just north of Charleston, the other a product of the Upstate, the grandchild of mill workers in the textile town of Spartanburg. Theirpassion and pride for the state of South Carolina, its people and itsbeauty, its wildlife and its economy, led to Loggerhead Apparel.
