SPARTANBURG, SC – April 7, 2011 – The City of Spartanburg’s long running weekly concert series Music on Main – will kick off on Thursday, April 7.  The event, presented by AT&T, is scheduled to run every Thursday during April and continuing through August from 6 to 9 pm on Main Street at Denny’s Plaza. Because of the tremendous support we get from our sponsors, the City of Spartanburg is able to continue offering free events to the community, said Special Events and Festivals Manager Mandy Merck. Music on Main is a highly anticipated downtown event. We’re excited for it to get underway again in April.

Not only does Music on Main provide entertainment for the local community, it also serves as an excellent fund-raising opportunity for Spartanburg’s civic organizations. Club members serve as volunteers at Music on Main concerts and then receive a percentage of the sales to support their charities. Since the inception of Music on Main, over $210,000 has been contributed to local civic organizations in the Spartanburg community.

Music on Main is a free event. Food, shaved ice, soft drinks, bottled water, and beer are available for purchase.

Music on Main is presented by AT&T. Additional event sponsors are the Herald Journal, Denny’s, Budweiser, Coca Cola of Spartanburg, and WROQ – Rock 101.

The City is committed to promoting responsible drinking. Alcoholic beverages will not be served to minors or intoxicated persons.  Anyone wishing to consume an alcoholic beverage must show a valid ID and wear a wristband. All guests of Music on Main are asked to leave pets and coolers at home.
