Self Regional CEO Nominated for National IT Award

GREENWOOD, SC – August 17, 2010 – Jim Pfeffier, President and CEO ofSelf Regional Healthcare, is one of 82 healthcare leaders nationwide tobe recognized for information technology achievement.
Modern Healthcare, a weekly, 70,000-circulation business publicationthat delivers news and information to executives in the healthcareindustry, has recognized Pfeiffer as one of two South Carolina nomineesin its eighth annual Modern Healthcare CEO IT Achievement Awards. Thecompetition is co-sponsored by the Healthcare Information ManagementSystems Society and singles out executives who make health ITinnovations take place in their respective organizations.
Pfeiffer, who joined Self Regional two years ago, was nominated fordemonstrating leadership and a commitment to utilizing informationtechnology in advancing his organization’s strategic goals. The onlyother South Carolina hospital executive nominated for the award wasStuart Smith, vice president of clinical operations and executivedirector at the Medical University of South Carolina Authority inCharleston.
Nominees were judged by a five-judge panel based on three criteria.These included leadership and commitment to using IT to advance his orher healthcare organization’s strategic goals; achievement of measurableresults through leadership and commitment to IT in his or herorganization; and sharing his or her healthcare organization’s ITexperiences to benefit peers and other members of the healthcareindustry.
“Jim is an outstanding advocate of what you can do with informationtechnology to support the mission of our hospital,” noted ChuckMcDevitt, who in his role as Self Regional Healthcare Chief InformationOfficer nominated Pfeiffer for the award.
“Thanks to his vision,” McDevitt said, “we are making tremendous stridesin moving Self Regional toward achieving an electronic medical recordin our facility, and also in helping many affiliated and non-affiliatedphysicians in the community achieve the same goal.”
McDevitt said Pfeiffer’s leadership and commitment of resources isunparalleled in showing what can be accomplished with great people andoutstanding technology.
“He clearly supports our vision of bringing advanced care closer to home,” McDevitt added.
Hazel B. Hughes, chairman of the Self Regional Healthcare Board ofTrustees, also backed Pfeiffer’s nomination with a letter of support.The Greenwood banking executive said Pfeiffer’s support of advancementsin information technology is fueled by the desire of Self Regional teammembers to deliver very good care to the patients they serve.
“In his two years of leadership at Self Regional, Jim Pfeiffer has beeninstrumental in supporting our hospital’s transition from paper toelectronic medical records,” Mrs. Hughes said. “Not only has he helpedengage Self Regional team members in the support of this transition, buthe has done so with one goal in mind—to improve patient care throughthese advancements in information technology. I salute Jim for hisleadership and commitment to our patients.”
Prior to joining Self Regional in 2008, Pfeiffer served as ExecutiveVice President and Chief Operating Officer of Morton Plant MeaseHealthcare in Tampa, FL. He holds the BS degree in biology and the MBAfrom Florida State University. Pfeiffer and his wife, Leona, are parentsto three children.
