Colonial Life, employees contribute $2.4 million to the Midlands community

March 14, 2018

Colonial Life and its employees teamed up to contribute more than $2.4 million last year.

The multimillion-dollar impact came from a combination of corporate contributions of more than $1.7 million, employee-directed giving and the approximated value of 11,600 employee volunteer hours given to charitable organizations in 2017.

“Our employees continue to support communities and families across the region by giving their time and financial resources,” said Colonial Life President and CEO Tim Arnold. “While it’s great to see the impact our employees make through our company, we know that hundreds are also active volunteers in their own communities. Our employees make this an incredibly giving place to work.”

Colonial Life’s corporate social responsibility program focuses on education, health and wellness, and cultural arts. The United Way of the Midlands was the largest single beneficiary of the company’s charitable giving last year. It received more than $410,000 from the company and its employees.

Other major charitable efforts during 2017 included support of youth development programs at EdVenture, educational enrichment programs at Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens and with The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands, providing funds for local classrooms through the Strong Schools Grants program, launching a new teacher success program through the College of Education at University of South Carolina, continuing support of the Midlands Educator Leadership Experience in partnership with Midlands Education & Business Alliance and supporting youth homelessness at Transitions Homeless Center.
