Nelson Mullins Awards third year of Diversity Scholarship

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has awarded its third year of a Diversity Scholarship to law student Jason Richardson. He will receive a $10,000 scholarship and a salaried summer 2018 position in the Firm’s Columbia office.

Primarily designed to increase the number of diverse law students interested in summer and long-term employment with the Firm, the Nelson Mullins Diversity Scholarship Program fits squarely into the Firm’s commitment to inclusive excellence and robust diversity in all aspects of Firm life, according to Managing Partner James K. Lehman.

“Having the scholarship available to me along with other students provides an opportunity to work with a great firm,” Richardson said. “In addition to that, it provides financial assistance that will help reduce the burden of student loan debts upon graduation.”

Richardson is a second-year law student at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He graduated from Benedict College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He is also a graduate of the South Carolina Bankers’ School. Richardson is a member of the ABA Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Journal. He has more than 10 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry. Most recently, he served as Vice President/Community Banker of Congaree State Bank where his responsibilities included managing both consumer and commercial relationships. He was a summer associate with the Firm last year.
