County Councilman elected treasurer of South Carolina Association of Counties

Richland County Councilman Calvin “Chip” Jackson, District 9, was recently elected treasurer of a statewide government organization, the South Carolina Association of Counties (SCAC). The SCAC is dedicated to representing, supporting and providing resources to all 46 South Carolina counties. Based in Richland County, SCAC is led by a 29-member board of directors elected by officials from the across the Palmetto state. This year marks SCAC’s 50th anniversary.
“I am honored to be elected to serve as treasurer for the SCAC for the next term,” said Jackson, who was elected at the Institute of Government County Council Coalition meeting Oct. 19. “One of my most important roles of being a member of Richland County Council is taking the wonderful things this Council is doing and sharing them with the entire state.”
During the Oct. 19 meeting, Councilman Jackson greeted Joel Dill, son of current SCAC Board Member and Past President (2011) Joseph B. Dill. According to the elder Dill, currently a Greenville County Councilman, “my son Joel loves people who love him in return. Chip became friends with Joel as soon as they met.” (photo attached – see cutline below).
Jackson is serving his first four-year term on Richland County Council after being elected in November 2016. He recently retired as the chief operating officer for administration at the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road but continues to serve as a consultant to the progressive ministry of more than 14,000. A lifelong educator, Jackson recently concluded his second term on the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees. “I am excited to learn about all of the great things my peers in South Carolina’s other 46 counties are doing, that we may benefit from some of them here in Richland County,” Jackson said.
Richland County Councilman Greg Pearce, District 6, served as SCAC president in 2008.
