Lexington Data and Telecommunications Manager named DSS September Employee of the Month

The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SC DSS) recently established a program to recognize staff members who perform their jobs exceptionally well, go above and beyond what is expected of them, and in doing so, demonstrates our core principles of competence, courage, and compassion. Charles (Charly) Reese, Data and Telecommunications Manager in Information Managementat State Office, Columbia, was one of four selected for September.

Reese said he feels “unworthy, because the reason I am nominated was a team effort.”

Reese has been with the Agency for 20 years. During his career with DSS Reese has served as Acting Chief Information Security Officer, Data Center Manager, and Server and Network Manager.

Currently, as Data and Telecommunications Network Manager, Reese maintains the internet for all DSS staff by managing Desk and Mobile phone systems across the state and as Security Officer for the Data and Network Services Department.

His nomination states Reese was “chosen by management for his outstanding work with the agency, which included a review of accounts that resulted in a savings to the agency of 15K per year!  He is also being recognized for the successful move of several program areas from State Office to their new location on Browning Road.”

A native of Lexington, South Carolina, Reese still resides there.

Staff selected for the Employee of the Month Program are awarded with lunch with the State Director along with other honorees, a dedicated parking space, a photo and write up displayed at State Office, and a write-up sent to their community newspaper.

Other September winners were Cindy McIntee, Regional Attorney for the Lowcountry, Seandra Kelly, Specialized Food Assistance & Food Program Coordinator and Amanda Hull, Foster Care in Charleston County.
