District hires new Director of Communications

August 31, 2017

At a board meeting on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis recommended and the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Ishmael T. Abdus-Saboor as the new Director of Communications. Abdus-Saboor is a familiar face in Richland Two’s Communications and Strategic Partnerships Department where she served as Public Relations Coordinator. Abdus-Saboor began working in Richland Two in 2008 as the Web Content Coordinator and helped establish the district’s social media presence. Prior to joining the Richland Two staff, she worked as a news reporter for The Greenville News and The State Newspaper. A graduate of Winthrop University, Abdus-Saboor holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication.

“I relish the opportunity to grow my skill set, and love a challenge that requires me to think outside the box,” said Abdus-Saboor.

Abdus-Saboor was instrumental last school year in helping the district devise a process that allows transportation staff to quickly update parents via the Richland Two App about changes to bus routes. For that solution, she received a “Thinking Outside the Box” award from the Richland Two administration.

She takes over the position formerly held by Joe Burke who resigned recently to pursue a public education opportunity closer to home in York County. Abdus-Saboor is married to Lael and they have a daughter, Laela, who is a pre-school student.
