Hammond Merit Scholars Program seeks applicants

The Hammond Scholars Program seeks prospective 9th and 10th grade students outside the Hammond community who exhibit great academic promise, are in the top of their class, and are leaders among their peers.  Scholarships may include full or partial tuition and are based solely on merit.  These scholarships will renew annually until the time of graduation as long as the student remains in good academic standing.  Nominated students must possess a demonstrated record of academic achievement, exemplary character and leadership, and well-rounded participation within their school and community.

Nomination Criteria

  • ‘A’ average in all classes, top 10% of current class, and top 10% in national testing
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or a positive contribution to a group or cause
  • Completion of Hammond’s admission application, along with two teacher recommendations and a defined essay
  • Selection Committee interview

2017 Dates

  • Scholarship Application Deadline: March 17, 2017
  • Scholar Candidate Interview and Visitation Day: March 30, 2017

Application Steps

  • Students should submit a nomination form, completed by a third party.
  • Students are required to take the SSAT and should sign up as soon as possible. Information and test dates can be found at www.ssat.org.
  • Students must complete the full Hammond application including two teacher recommendations, and a writing sample.
  • Students must submit supporting school records to include the most recent report card, transcript, and standardized test scores.
  • Students are required to submit an additional essay, using one of the following prompts:

What are the characteristics of a good leader?  When have you demonstrated these traits?

or What (or who) inspires you?
