Reigning 6-time Charleston Mac Off Champion, Executive Chef Landen Ganstrom of Crave Kitchen & Cocktails is headed to Columbia, South Carolina this Sunday, May 15 to represent the Lowcountry and compete in the Columbia Mac Off. Chef Landen has remained undefeated throughout the six years the Charleston Mac Off has taken place and will now be bringing his award-winning dish to Columbia for their mac & cheese competition to show the attendees just what they have been missing.
“The Charleston Mac Off is always one of my favorite local events and I was honored when they asked us to represent Charleston in the Columbia Mac Off,” explains Chef Landen. “I couldn’t be more excited to bring our mac & cheese to the Columbia Mac Off and show the out-of-town attendees what our guests from home crave.”
Chef Landen’s mac & cheese dish is made with ten year, cave-aged sharp cheddar, cavatappi pasta, and a few secret ingredients suggested by Chef Landen’s daughters, which still remain a secret – even to the rest of the Crave culinary team. “The ingredient we added to my dad’s mac & cheese dish is our little family secret,” says Chef Landen’s daughter. “I can’t wait to support our dad in another Mac Off competition and show Columbia why we call him the Mac Daddy.”
The famous dish has also sparked national attention of Thrillist, Esquire magazine, Yahoo! Travel, The Daily Meal and more. Most recently, Crave’s mac & cheese was named one of the 10 Best Mac and Cheese Restaurants in America by popular online blog, Tabelog.
The Columbia Mac Off will take place at the Hampton Preston Mansion from 12pm-5pm as fifteen South Carolina restaurants, cafes and caterers will compete for the title of Columbia’s Best Mac and Cheese.
