Another reason to celebrate Cinco De Mayo…. 116 will reopen its doors!

April 27, 2016

COLUMBIA, SC – Local favorite West Columbia Restaurant 116 State will reopen their doors May 5th at 5pm after suffering water damage from a ruptured pipe.

116_whittakerOn March 19th, 2016, 116 had to close their doors suddenly due to extensive damage from a pipe that burst on the second floor that flooded the popular restaurant. Suddenly Chef/Owner Ryan Whittaker was faced with staff being unable to work and the challenge of getting the restaurant back in working order as soon as possible with no reopen date in immediate sight. During the construction, Whittaker was overwhelmed by community and customer support. “There are a lot of negatives about working in the restaurant industry and a lot of people bash Columbia for being too small…but man I wouldn’t trade our friends/colleagues/community in this business for anything. They always have you and your restaurant “family’s” back!”

Last Sunday, Dave Shaw from Sakutumi invited 116 chefs and staff to have a brunch takeover to help pay staff during their time of unemployment.  The response was overwhelming, and the customer support moved Whittaker.  “116 has always felt like our staff and customers are like family, this experience has solidified that. We are looking forward to reopening our doors and welcoming everyone back to a dry and new 116.”
