Columbia College and South University announce pre-pharmacy collaboration

March 30, 2016

Columbia College President Elizabeth Dinndorf and South University School of Pharmacy President David Shoop signed a memorandum of understanding creating a “preferred consideration” opportunity for students in the College’s pre-pharmacy program to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree with South University. The schools will collaborate to offer information sessions, facilitate academic planning and advisement, and identify highly qualified candidates for graduate admission opportunities annually.

Dr. Julia Baker, advisor for Columbia College’s pre-pharmacy program said, “We have a chemistry graduate who has already continued into South’s pharmacy program, and I am excited that this new partnership will encourage more students to pursue this opportunity. Our pre-pharmacy program ensures that students stay on track to meet their goals and also connects them with peers for mutual support.”

President Dinndorf and President Shoop echoed enthusiasm for the partnership. Shoop said, “We have enjoyed welcoming Columbia College students for site visits to our labs and to meet our graduate program faculty.” Dinndorf agreed, “This collaboration is a great step to prepare students for graduate study and successful careers in pharmacy.”
