Lexington One Announces Three Promotions

LEXINGTON, SC – Superintendent Karen Woodward announces that at the August 18, 2015 regular monthly meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the promotion of Matthew E. Warren to the position of Operations Program Manager in the District Office, Brian S. Barrineau to the position of Student Services Coordinator in the District Office and Leah R. Sarantopoulos to the position of Assistant Administrator at Carolina Springs Middle.

With 12 years of public education experience Matthew E. Warren, who currently serves as Student Services Coordinator in the District Office, began his career as a resource teacher teaching in the BEST program and coaching at White Knoll High School in 2003.

He was promoted to assistant administrator at White Knoll Middle School in 2006, to assistant principal at Gilbert High School in 2007 and to coordinator for Student Services in 2014.

His experiences include serving as district hearing officer and certified SAFE-T evaluator.

Warren holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Presbyterian College and a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina. He has educable and trainable mentally disabled (K–12) and secondary administration certifications and is a graduate of the South Carolina Developing Aspiring Principals Program and is Crisis Prevention Intervention certified.

Warren is a member of the South Carolina Association for School Administrators, the South Carolina Association for Curriculum and Supervision Development, and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Advisory Council.

In 1998, he began his teaching career at White Knoll Elementary School teaching physical education three days a week while also serving as substitute teacher at Lexington High School and assistant B-Team football coach.

Barrineau became a driver education teacher and assistant Junior Varsity football coach in 1999 at Lexington High. In 2000 when it opened, he moved to White Knoll High School where he continued to teach PE and driver education and served in a variety of coaching positions. In 2007, while teaching, he assumed some duties as an administrator until being promoted in 2009 to the position of assistant principal.

While serving as an assistant principal at WKHS, he coordinated school testing and homebound, worked with student discipline and attendance, and served as a District Hearing Officer for several years.

He has a Bachelor of Science in physical education and Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.

He has physical education, driver education and secondary administration certifications and is certified as a Mentor for first-year teachers, in Crisis Prevention Intervention and SAFE-T. Barrineau holds his Level Two Technology Competency.

He is a member of the South Carolina Association for School Administrators and the South Carolina Association for Curriculum and Supervision Development.

Screen Shot 2015-08-24 at 3.10.52 PMLeah R. Sarantopoulos, who currently serves as mathematics teacher and department head at White Knoll Middle School, was promoted to the position of Assistant Administrator at Carolina Springs Middle.

With 14 years of teaching and leadership experience, she began her career when she joined Lexington One in 2001 as a computer education teacher at White Knoll Middle School. While there, she developed accelerated computer education classes.

In 2006, she began teaching mathematics at WKMS and was chosen Teacher of the Year by her WKMS peers in 2011. For more than two years, Sarantopoulos has assisted assistant principals at WKMS with discipline referrals and associated student conferences.

She has a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Providence College in Rhode Island, a Master of Education in divergent learning from Columbia College, and a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.

She is a National Board Certified Teacher, gifted and talented endorsed, SAFE-T certified and Online Blended Course certified.

Sarantopoulos serves on the district’s Technology Users Group, teacher leader on the district’s Whatever it Takes committee, and WKMS’s school leadership team.

She is a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority and the Palmetto State Teachers Association.
