District Five elementary school teacher publishes book

August 27, 2014

IRMO, SC – Romana Gould knows people can learn a lot about life by watching cats – so much so that she published a 44-page book on the subject.

Book sales for the Dutch Fork Elementary School first grade teacher’s book, “Daily Inspurrations … to help you always land on your feet,” will begin on Sept. 1. Gould says the idea for the book started with her own observations of the cats she fosters through a rescue mission. A part of the proceeds from the book will go to local animal rescue organizations.

“Cats don’t really care who’s looking at them. They live life to the fullest each day. Imagine what it would be like if people live the way cats do,” the Lexington-Richland School District Five teacher said. “They really do provide the ideal inspiration to slow down, savor life and appreciate each moment, whether they are relaxing in the sun or curled up next to their favorite people.”

Published through Blue Mountain Arts, Gould’s book features photos she took of cats and inspirational words, like “Your purpose can seem small to you, but in the big picture, you are a vital part of the process” and “Fear can be beneficial. It motivates us to flee from danger. Fear can also cripple. The truth is that most of what we perceive is not real.”

“Romana’s gentle words and charming photos encourage us to appreciate the love and joy in our lives and to share it with others through acceptance, caring, and forgiveness,” the publishing firm said in a release.

Book orders are now available through popular sites, including booksamillion.com and amazon.com. Gould says her students have been her first book reviewers and biggest fans.

“They’re really excited for me and like flipping through the book,” she said. “They’ve been asking when it will be published and know that if everyone gets the book on Sept. 1, then I will be ranked on the (amazon) site. I want this book to be an inspiration for everyone; students, other teachers thinking of writing a book, parents … everyone. I’ve learned from my cats and hope, through this book, others will too.”
