The Columbia Museum of Art Presents Richard Buckner LIVE!

COLUMBIA, SC – July 10, 2014 – The Columbia Museum of Art, in collaboration with The Whig, hosts a concert by critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Richard Buckner on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. in the Museum’s Lorick Auditorium. The performance will be an evening to remember as Buckner plays selections from his latest release, Surrounded, as well as other material from the influential artist.
American musician Buckner’s work over the past two decades explores alt-country, electric folk, and acoustic rock with spacious, hauntingly poised compositions. Many artists, such as Justin Vernon from Bon Iver, cite him as a major influence on their art. He began his recording career in 1994 with Bloomedfollowed by 11 other releases to date. Buckner had in recent albums eschewed his initial acoustic approach, displaying an increasing interest in more abstract music styles, until reintegrating his early techniques on Our Blood in 2011. In the time since Our Blood was released and after a few long tours, Buckner attempted to work on writing short stories, but found himself drawn back into the music room. The evidence of his time in the writer’s chair is clear in the dense, lovely prose of Surrounded.
