Experience the climb of your life

COLUMBIA, SC – The American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climbs are unique fundraising events that provide participants the opportunity to take part in a vertical road race. The Midlands office of the American Lung Association in South Carolina will host its 5th annual Climb Columbia and hopes to meet its fundraising goal of $53,000.

On May 31, this year’s Columbia Fight for Air Climb will take place at the Capitol Center in downtown Columbia.  Participants will climb 25 floors, 479 steps to conquer Columbia’s tallest building.  Some climb for the competition, some climb it to simply make it to the top, but all participants climb for the mission of the American Lung Association.

“We have found that both teams and individuals use the climb as a fitness target, as a race, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends,” says Melissa Goforth, Area Manager of the Midlands office.

All proceeds from the climb go to research, education and advocacy programs which help the American Lung Association save lives by preventing lung disease and improving lung health.

Due to the event’s fun and fast-paced nature, there are usually a limited number of spots available, so be sure to sign up early.

Those that want to join the ALA in its mission and support the Fight for Air Climb, but may not plan to climb stairs, are invited to participate as a Virtual Climber.  If you will not be inColumbia on May 31 or have health conditions which make stair climbing inadvisable, this is another opportunity to be a part of the event.

To learn how you can help support local firefighters and the Fight for Air Climb Columbia, become a virtual climber, or form a climb team, please contact Melissa Goforth at 803.779.5864 or e-mail [email protected] .
