Historic Columbia Hosts Tax Credit Workshop for Historic Building Owners

COLUMBIA, SC – January 11, 2013 – Owners of historic buildings may be eligible for a number of state and federal tax incentives aimed at historic preservation. Historic Columbia Foundation will host a tax credit workshop by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) on Saturday, February 2, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Seibels House.
The three-hour workshop, led by SHPO’s Rebekah Dobrasko, Dan Elswick from the SC Department of Archives and History and Amy Moore from the City of Columbia, will teach attendees about the state and federal tax incentives that are available, how to determine eligibility and how to take advantage of the incentives. The presenters will give an overview of the tax credits and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings and answer any questions attendees may have about their particular buildings.

In November 1961, a small group of individuals intent on saving the Ainsley Hall House from demolition officially incorporated as the Historic Columbia Foundation.
