US Development Focuses on Revitalization of Urban Areas

COLUMBIA, SC – April 13, 2009 – A new development company, headquartered in Columbia, has begun operation, filling a niche in the real estate market that promises new life to downtown residential living and businesses in mixed-use buildings. 
 
The company is the first of its kind in the nation, specializing in infill redevelopment in the central business districts of major metropolitan areas.
 
US Development, or USD, was created and founded by three long-time real estate entrepreneurs: David M. Bryant, principal of Metropolitan Development Inc.; Thomas J. Prioreschi, founder of Capitol Places, and his son, Jeffrey N. Prioreschi, all of Columbia. 
 
The new company is focusing on historical landmark renovations and center-city properties in the Southeastern region of the country.  Several properties are in final negotiations. 
 
When finalized, renovations will transform the properties for adaptive reuse, making way for both residential living and commercial businesses.  USD plans to maintain a building’s existing historical significance, while preserving original construction materials and structural integrity.  The residential component of the projects will have extensive modern amenities.
 
David Bryant, the company’s president, says, Through our experience in Columbia and other cities, we have found a new, exciting energy in our urban centers.  People – especially young professionals and empty-nesters – are moving from the suburbs to downtown business districts.
 
An impressive number of homeowners want to live near their work, entertainment, healthcare, arts and culture.  They don’t have time to devote to long commutes.  And the majority of them aren’t interested in large yards and grounds that require both work and money.  Our company believes this trend has only just begun.
 
Bryant says that across the nation, downtown areas are emerging, while many historic buildings that boast a wealth of history and architectural importance remain under-utilized.   
 
Bryant serves as president of USD.  Tom Prioreschi is the company’s CEO, with Jeff Prioreschi acting as executive vice president.
