People Without Jobs – Jobs Without People

COLUMBIA, SC – April 9, 2009 – You’re an employer with jobs to fill. There are unemployed workers who need jobs. So why can’t you get together, meet each other’s need and help bring down the area’s unemployment rate?

The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce will host a meeting at 960 Richland Street, Columbia, SC in The Palmetto Room on April 21st from 4 to 5:30pm between the S.C. Employment Security Commission and members of the business community to explore that question.

Many unemployed workers register with the S.C. Employment Security Commission. But employers sometimes have difficulty working with the commission or don’t try to use the system to find workers.

We have jobs without people and people without jobs, said Jim Reynolds, president of Total Comfort, and former chairman of both the chamber and the Midlands Education and Business Alliance.

Members of the chamber’s Manufacturer’s Council along with human resource administrators of the area larger employers are invited to attend the roundtable designed to help the commission understand businesses’ needs and help the businesses understand how to use the state system to find workers.

Ken Carey owner of www.AgilStaff.com  is chairing the chamber effort working with Steve Marshall, Deputy Executive Director for employment and training of the S.C. Employment Security Commission.
