Attorney General to Serve as Honorary Spokesman for In-Vest USA

March 10, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – March 10, 2009 – State attorney general Henry McMaster will serve as Honorary Spokesman for In-Vest USA, a Richland County-based non-profit organization which raises money to equip law enforcement officers with bulletproof vests.

In-Vest USA is naming honorary spokespeople each month as a way to raise awareness of the importance of providing protective body armor for police, deputies, Highway Patrol officers and other first responders. Actress Jenny Young served as last month’s honorary spokesperson.

In-Vest USA has undertaken a noble initiative — protecting those who protect us. I am honored to work with In-Vest USA has they work toward their goal of one day seeking every law enforcement officer in the nation equipped with life-saving body armor, McMaster said. We should not be willing to let brave men and women who put their lives on the line for our safety do so without the protection of the one piece of equipment that could mean the difference between life and death.

In-Vest founder Michael Letts said the current economic crisis has placed increased demands on law enforcement because crime is up and funding for law enforcement is less certain. Even in the best of times, the men and women of law enforcement had dangerous jobs. In tough times, it’s more important than ever that we pull together to protect those who protect us.

In-Vest was formed in 1993, when members of the Northeast Kiwanis Club learned that the vests were not standard-issue equipment. They huddled to find a way to supply vests, resulting in the non-profit organization.
