Nuclear Energy Institute Workshop to be Held March 27 in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC – March 24, 2008 – The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) has chosen Columbia as the location for one of its regional manufacturing outreach workshops.
WHO: The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) has chosen Columbia as the location for one of its regional manufacturing outreach workshops. South Carolina co-sponsors for the event are New Carolina and the S.C. Department of Commerce. Also participating are members of the Carolinas Nuclear Cluster, including nuclear-related companies from across the Carolinas.
WHAT: The one-day workshop is designed to help area companies learn how to supply products and services to the nuclear industry. It will offer insights on current market conditions and requirements to enter the industry.
To educate attendees, industry leaders in reactor design, engineering, construction and procurement will lead various workshops throughout the day. Keynote speaker at the event will be U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.
The event is particularly relevant because the nuclear industry is set for a major resurgence across the country. Currently, North and South Carolina have 12 operating reactors producing 11 percent of the nation’s nuclear power. As many as five new reactors are proposed in the two states.
