First Lady Announces Weekly Winner of SC School Video Contest

COLUMBIA, SC – December 7, 2007- At noon today, voters determined Hey Girl, I Beat Obesity as the weekly winner of the Healthy SC School
Video Contest.
Donna Harrison, Christie Severin, Mitch Curry and Melissa Clayton submitted Hey Girl, I Beat Obesity. Each of the students on the team will receive a fitness prize pack from Coca Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated- and will remain in the contest for a chance to win the monthly prize of $3,500 cash!
Hey Girl, I Beat Obesity is a 60 second video about a high school student who is rejected by his peers because of his unhealthy lifestyle that includes chewing tobacco, not exercising, and a diet of potato chips and candy. The student asks himself, What do I have to do to get a girlfriend? The video concludes with him shedding the pounds by eating healthy, exercising and not using tobacco products- and getting a girlfriend!

Smoking Waltz submitted by a team of eight students in 8th grade at Gibbes Middle School in Richland County Get Fit submitted by students at Timberland High School in Berkeley County Healthy Intervention submitted by students at Garrett Academy of Technology in Charleston County Healthy Track submitted by students at Laurens District 55 High School in Laurens County
In order to qualify for the prizes, students are required to register their video(s) on the Healthy SC Challenge website, www.healthysc.gov.
Over a dozen videos have been registered this week but not yet uploaded.
Students at Conway High School in Horry County and Lake View Middle School in Greenville County will be entering some videos soon! The top 20 videos lock in at midnight on December 24th to compete in the quarter-finals. This means there are only 17 days left to upload videos for December.
The contest runs through January 31st, with video submissions accepted up until January 23, 2008. Each month, the video in the #1 spot will receive $3,500 cash and the runner up will receive $1,500. Schools of the top two videos each month will also receive prizes.
