Governor McMaster, Senator Leatherman, Speaker Lucas Address Business Community

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Monday held its annual Business Speaks at the State House event, presented by Dominion Energy. The event included a South Carolina State House visit led by the Chamber’s policy team, a legislative forum including Governor McMaster, Speaker Lucas, and Senate President Pro Tempore Leatherman, as well as a networking reception at the Palmetto Club.

Business leaders from across the state weighed in on the event and what’s next for South Carolina:

“These types of events are important to open dialogue between business leaders and our legislators. The business community appreciates our state leaders’ willingness to listen and help find solutions to some of the most critical issues key to South Carolina’s competitiveness.” said Jack Sanders, President & CEO of Sonoco and Chair of the SC Chamber Board of Directors.

“As a small business owner, it is great to be a part of a forum where the Governor and the General Assembly are listening to business leaders of companies both large and small. With almost 50% of the state workforce employed by small business, it is imperative that our voices be heard and I thank the leadership and staff at the SC Chamber for assisting us in facilitating this dialogue” said Thomas Rhodes, President of Rhodes Companies.

“”This year’s Business Speaks at the Statehouse event was a great success” said SC Chamber President & CEO Ted Pitts. “We thank each of our panelists and all of our stakeholders for sharing a lively discussion on how to keep South Carolina moving forward. We are looking forward to a productive legislative session.”
