Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce named 2017 Chamber of the Year Finalist
June 13, 2017The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce has been named a Chamber of the Year Finalist by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE).
We are one of only three finalists – along with Chattanooga, TN and Dayton, OH – in the Metro Chambers category. To reach this stage of the competition is a huge accomplishment and a major validation of the dedication of our volunteer leaders, members and staff.
Chamber of the Year is the nation’s only award recognizing the leadership role chambers have in their communities. Those honored with the Chamber of the Year designation have demonstrated organizational strength and made an impact on key community priorities, such as education, transportation, business development and quality of life.

“Receiving this acknowledgment just months after achieving 5-Star Accreditation from the U.S. Chamber for the third straight time is a true testament to the work of our talented staff, volunteer leadership and committed membership,” said Bryan Derreberry, Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. “We are truly honored to be recognized alongside Chattanooga and Dayton as a finalist for this prestigious award. Thank you to each one of our members for your continued investment into the Chamber and the Charleston region.”
Only 104 out of 7,000+ chambers nationally even qualified to enter the Chamber of the Year competition based on membership performance and financial management. The rigorous award application requires written responses to nearly two dozen questions, assessing the full scope of our work: from marketing to membership, employee development to advocacy.
Applications are scored by peer chamber executives to determine finalists, demonstrating that chamber-industry counterparts from across the country see the innovation and passion in the work your Chamber is doing. Winners are selected from among finalists based on an in-person interview before a panel of experienced chamber professionals and will be announced at ACCE’s National Convention in Nashville, Tenn. on July 18.
This year’s competition drew numerous entries from chambers throughout the U.S and Canada. To ensure the fairest competition, applicants are grouped into five categories based on: annual revenue, membership, area population, and several other factors.
