Celebrate the Holidays Under the sea at the South Carolina Aquarium

November 27, 2015
Dive into the Sea-son with Scuba Claus, Snow Days, and Shark on the Shelf

Tis the season for special holiday fun at the South Carolina Aquarium. Starting Nov. 27, the jolly old man in the big red suit —or should we say scuba gear— will dive in the Aquarium’s Great Ocean Tank. The fun doesn’t end there, as the Aquarium will host “snow day” themed activities during the first three weekends in December.

Scuba Claus will make special appearances during the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. dive shows during the weekends. When Scuba Claus is away conducting business at the North Pole, his special elf helper will dive in the tank during weekdays. For a full schedule of these special holiday dives click here. During the first three weekends in December, as well as Dec. 21-23, experience the magic of the holiday season through the Aquarium’s “snow day” activities. Activities include complimentary snowman cookie decorating, terrapin turtles painting holiday ornaments, snowman bowling, and the popular Shark on the Shelf featuring Finzy. When guests find Finzy, they receive a special prize.

The holiday fun continues with a trip to the North Pole aboard the Polar Express. The Polar Express 4-D Experience is now playing in the Aquarium’s 4-D Theater through Dec. 31. The 15-minute film is based on the popular children’s book featuring a young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole. The 4-D Theater combines 3-D imagery, interactive seating and waves of special effects such as snow, gusts of wind, and the smell of hot chocolate, all synchronized to the film. There are multiple show times daily, and tickets can be purchased individually or as part of the Aquarium Premier Pass. Aquarium members receive free admission to the theater.

The Aquarium also has several gift options when it comes to giving the perfect holiday present. Whether it’s a membership, Aquarium gift card, or an animal adoption, there’s something for everyone on your shopping list.
