Relief efforts in the Carolinas get boost with $100,000 donation from Duke Energy

  • $20,000 donation to the American Red Cross in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC – Duke Energy today announced a $100,000donation to the American Red Cross to assist with the relief efforts in South Carolina andNorth Carolina due to the devastating effects of the recent storm.

The donation includes $80,000 to the American Red Cross – Palmetto SC Region and$20,000 to the American Red Cross Eastern NC Chapter to benefit the most impacted counties.

“More than 1 million Duke Energy customers were affected by the historic weather in the Carolinas this past week, and thousands of employees, retirees and their families call those areas home,” said Stick Williams, president, Duke Energy Foundation.

“We know that the region’s recovery continues long after we restore the power, which is why we have partnered with the Red Cross to support this effort. Quickly and effectively responding to these conditions is what they do best,” Williams said.

Duke Energy also activated its matching grant program for employees, so that every dollar they contribute to the American Red Cross relief efforts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the company.
