Striped Pig Distillery’s beloved mascot banned from King Street’s Second Sunday

CHARLESTON, SC – When Charleston City Paper named Striped Pig Distillery’s mascot, Jackson the Striped Pig, the “Best Liquor Branding” in the city, people began to take even more notice of the slightly different creature roaming King Street on Second Sundays.

“It started out as a fun idea to get people talking about Charleston’s first distillery coming to town. Jackson quickly turned into a pet and I have cared very much for him since. There are not many places that we don’t go together. Sometimes, Jackson prefers to stay home and chill, but when he’s ready to get out and about, he loves nothing more than roaming King Street during Second Sunday and posing for pictures in exchange for a belly rub.” Jim Craig, Jackson’s father and an owner of Striped Pig Distillery, said.

Jackson’s favorite day of the month has sadly come to an end though, as Second Sunday organizers asked him to stay home during July’s event.

“We were all rather shocked. We felt like he added to the fun and unique atmosphere of King Street. He never caused any harm and although he’s a hefty guy, there are many dogs that frequent King Street that are much more intimidating. Never the less, Jackson will have to miss out on the fun from now on,” Craig added.

Jackson even has his own Facebook page that keeps his loyal fans up to date on his life and events. Now, it will be even harder to try and spot this intriguing character around town. Striped Pig Distillery is open for free tours and tastings, Wednesday through Friday from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M and Saturday from 12 P.M. to 5 P.M.
