Palmetto Cycling Coalition Announces Safe Streets Save Lives Campaign and Bike Giveaway

May 3, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – May 3, 2012 – Palmetto Cycling Coalition, a non-profit organization dedicated to making South Carolina safe for all cyclists, has kicked off Safe Streets Save Lives, a yearlong public and private partnership designed to bring awareness to bicycling laws and rights to auto drivers and bicyclists.

To celebrate National Bike Safety Month, Safe Streets Save Lives is giving away a Specialized Hardrock Mountain Bike to one of the organization’s Facebook or Twitter followers. The contest will run from May 1 -18, 2012 and a winner will be announced Monday, May 21.

“We’re very excited about Safe Streets Save Lives,” said Rachael Bronson, executive director of Palmetto Cycling Coalition. “South Carolina actually has some of the most progressive laws in the country when it comes to bicycle safety, yet we rank 49th in the country when it comes to bicycle-related deaths. In the next year, we have educational initiatives and plans to bring public awareness to drivers and bicyclists about sharing the road. Ultimately, we just want to encourage more people to get on their bikes. More bikes on the road is better for all of us, and that’s why we’re excited to give away a brand new bike.”
