City of Charleston Summer Youth Employment Program

CHARLESTON, SC – April 2011 – The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is now accepting applications for jobs during the summer of 2011. The program offers students in the Charleston community the opportunity to gain job experience, workplace skills and better prepare themselves to achieve their educational and career goals. 

High school students who will be 15 years of age by June 1, 2011 are eligible to apply for 33 available paid jobs as day camp workers with the City of Charleston. Under supervision, the students will assist campers with arts and crafts and the set up for camp activities, conduct games and activities, accompany campers on field trips, communicate with parents, and help to monitor the children throughout the day. Students work 20 hours per week for 8 weeks between June 6th and July 29th.

There is 1 job available for a college student 22 years of age or younger to help with the environmental education programs within the Recreation Department. The student will assist with the Nuts About Nature Summer Camp, including arts and crafts, lesson plans, field trips, and other activities.
