South Carolina Colleges and Universities Awarded Over $6.8 Million in Grants
September 20, 2010WASHINGTON, DC – September 20, 2010 – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today announced more than $6.8 million in grants for Benedict College, Medical University of South Carolina, and University of South Carolina.
The grants were awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice.
Benedict College – $100,000
- $100,000 for a project entitled “FY10 Health and Wellness Initiative for Women Attending Minority Institutions” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Medical University of South Carolina – $1,250,529
- $363,805 for a project entitled “Intermuscular Coordination of Hemiparetic Walking” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
- $299,863 for a project entitled “Dissemination of the PPRNet Model for Improving Medication Safety” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
- $276,563 for a project entitled “The Mechanism of the Outer Blood-Retina Barrier Breakdown” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
- $199,673 for a project entitled “FY10 Intensive Case Management for Family Members of Homicide Victims” from the Department of Justice. These funds will be used to identify and replicate practices related to comprehensive services for family members of homicide victims.
- $110,625 for a project entitled “Placenta Growth Factor Inhibition in Head and Neck Cancer” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
University of South Carolina – $5,465,303
- $3,476,806 for a project entitled “South Carolina IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
- $786,470 for a project entitled “FY10 Research on Technology-Facilitated Crimes Against Children” from the Department of Justice. These funds will be used to study and research technology-facilitated crimes against children.
- $489,049 for a project entitled “Fundamental Research to Improve Understanding of the Accuracy, Reliability, and Measurement Validity of Forensic Science Disciplines” from the Department of Justice. These funds will be used to streamline and improve the forensic studies.
- $451,336 for a project entitled “Research and Development on Instrumental Analysis for Forensic Science Applications” from the Department of Justice. These funds will be used to develop and analyze new methods for forensic sciences.
- $181,250 for a project entitled “Promoting Healthy Weight in Pregnancy and Postpartum Among Overweight/Obese Women” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
- $69,392 for a project entitled “Geriatric Academic Career Awards” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
- $11,000 for a project entitled “Educational Activities of Environment Section at APHA Annual Meeting” from the Department of Health and Human Services.
