Green Living: Energy Saving Tips from Santee Cooper Green
January 11, 2010MONCKS CORNER, SC – January 11, 2010 – Some of the most popular New Year’s resolutions are to lose weight, quit smoking, volunteer more, manage debt and save money, according to the government Web site USA.gov.
All of these are admirable aspirations, but let’s focus specifically on saving money in the new year. Financial gurus abound with tips and tactics for stretching your dollar further, but consider implementing energy conservation and efficiency strategies into your penny-pinching plan.
Santee Cooper launched its comprehensive Reduce the Use campaign in September 2009 to help customers save money and energy through energy efficiency measures. With 2010 upon us, now is the perfect time to start thinking green and saving green around the home.
“Think of it as placing your home on an energy diet. Instead of cutting calories or carbohydrates, you’re cutting kilowatts, and the only thing getting fatter is your wallet,” said Vice President of Retail Operations Zack Dusenbury.
The first phase of this multi-year program was the Refrigerator Rebate program, which offers customers a $35 rebate to recycle a working refrigerator manufactured before 1993. What’s more, customers can receive another $40 if they decide to purchase a new ENERGY STAR model.
“Customers can qualify for up to $110 in rebates, if they buy a new ENERGY STAR model and recycle the maximum two older refrigerators,” Dusenbury said. “But they’ll enjoy the savings associated with the added efficiency for years to come.”
Beyond the icebox, Santee Cooper in November introduced Smart Energy Homes program, featuring initiative for existing and new residences. In Smart Energy Existing Homes, customers looking to give their homes a comprehensive energy efficiency makeover can receive rebates, low-interest financing opportunities and professional guidance. Meanwhile, the Smart Energy New Homes program offers rebates and technical assistance to homebuilders who construct homes that achieve minimum energy efficiency standards.
“The goal is to work with you to make your home more efficient and comfortable,” said Dusenbury. “There are some very simple and inexpensive steps we all can take to save energy and money at home, and Santee Cooper can also help with those improvements that require more of an investment.”
