ATI Awarded Shipbuilding Technology Center of Excellence Contract
September 8, 2009CHARLESTON, SC – September 8, 2009 – The Advanced Technology Institute (ATI), an SCRA affiliate, announces that the Office of Naval Research has awarded ATI a $99 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to operate and manage its Center for Naval Shipbuilding Technology (CNST). This Center’s mission is to develop shipbuilding-related manufacturing technologies and implement them in America’s shipyards. The CNST will work closely with the Navy’s acquisition community and the shipbuilding industry to identify manufacturing technology issues that will improve shipyard efficiency (cycle-time and cost). The CNST will then solicit, select, and execute projects that address the industry’s manufacturing challenges. Work will be performed in North Charleston, S.C., and is expected to be completed August 2014.
ATI has been operating CNST since 2003 and has successfully retained the Center contract by prevailing in a customary Federal re-compete. This contract was competitively procured under a Request for Proposals (N00014-09-R-0004), with two offers received. The Office of Naval Research, Arlington, VA., is the contracting office (N00014-09-D-0584).
”We are proud to see ATI once again deliver assured outcomes for the U.S. Navy in support of national initiatives, and bring greater efficiency to our U.S. shipyards,” said Rick Self, ATI President. “The program will continue to develop and implement advanced technologies and improve the affordability of Navy shipbuilding programs.”
“In this case, through its ATI affiliate, SCRA continues to demonstrate both the technical capability and business acumen to outdistance formidable competitors and secure long-term contracts,” said Bill Mahoney, SCRA CEO. “We look forward to sustained delivery of assured outcomes to the Navy and to our corporate Center partners.”
