16th Annual Special Needs Ski Event to be held Friday, June 23, 2017

March 16, 2017

Special needs participants from all over the Midlands, and their families, will spend a day at Lake Murray enjoying waterskiing on an adaptable ski, tubing, and kayaking. The event will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017. Special needs children over the age of six and adults are welcome. Families and siblings are also welcome.

The signature event of Limitless Sports takes a host of volunteers to ensure the success and safety of all participants. All of them agree that no reward compares to a thumbs-up and big smile after a great ride on the lake from a child who has just begun to see their limitless potential!

Limitless Sports was founded in 1998 to give children with special needs the opportunity to participate in sports that otherwise would be denied to them. “The key is adaptation” according to Dr. Piehl of Midlands Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, who has developed programs with modified sports equipment that allows these children to participate in activities such as a wheelchair basketball league, sailing lessons, and a the organization’s annual ski clinic.

Led by Dr. Fred Piehl, the Pediatric Team at Midlands Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery is known for its exceptional care. They believe that a thriving community is made of healthy, happy children, and therefore their commitment to children goes way beyond the exam room. For them, healing what is physically broken is not enough. Their ultimate goal is to empower every child to reach their full potential. All children, even those with special needs, deserve the opportunity to make the impossible possible. This vision inspired Dr. Piehl to create Limitless Sports.

Limitless Sports’ 16th Annual Ski Event will be held from 9 a.m. until after lunch Friday, June 23rd at the Woodmen of the World located at 2000 Johnson Marina Road; Chapin, SC 29036. Lunch (with ice cream dessert) will be provided.
