Emmanuel’s Hammer Helps Homeowners With No Options
November 7, 2014GREENVILLE, SC – Missionary Supply Network (MSN), a nonprofit organization providing home rehabilitation services for homeowners in need throughout the Upstate, has rebranded itself as Emmanuel’s Hammer. Earlier this year, the organization engaged in a strategic planning process where stakeholders acknowledged that the MSN name no longer reflected the organization’s expanded mission.
K.C. Carter, Executive Director, established the organization to provide disaster relief to people living in the Bahamas shortly after hurricanes Frances and Jeanne struck in the fall of 2004. MSN responded immediately by organizing and then leading short-term mission teams to the Bahamas where the organization worked with local missionaries to source, procure, and deliver building supplies needed for rebuilding efforts.
The initial goal of the organization was limited to disaster relief. However, by 2008, the organization expanded its focus to include rebuilding the homes and lives of homeowners living in sub-standard conditions. “The name change reflects the work our organization has been doing for a number of years,” said Carter. “We hope that, by changing our name, more homeowners in need will know that we are an organization they can turn to for support.”
The non-denominational, faith-based organization now focuses on sharing the love of Christ by providing urgently needed repairs to the homes of qualified homeowners in need. These homeowners have exhausted all other repair options and, for one reason or another, their requests for help have been denied. In most cases, Emmanuel’s Hammer is their last and only option. The vision of Emmanuel’s Hammer is to help end sub-standard housing in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Over the next few months, the organization will be rolling out a new version of its website and print materials. “We chose the name Emmanuel’s Hammer because, Emmanuel (which is the Greek form of the Hebrew meaning, “God with us”), reflects our commitment to demonstrate the love and teachings of Christ,” said Les Pritchard, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “The hammer reminds us not only that we are builders, but that Jesus Christ was a carpenter, a builder, and a restorer of life as well.”
About Emmanuel’s Hammer
Emmanuel’s Hammer is an inter-denominational, 501(c)(3), faith-based organization based in Greenville, South Carolina, whose mission is to share the love of Christ. Emmanuel’s Hammer makes a significant difference in the lives of the families and communities it serves by helping homeowners in need throughout the Upstate of South Carolina to live in safe, sanitary, and secure homes as a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty.
The goal of Emmanuel’s Hammer is not simply to provide decent homes to those in need, but also to develop sustainable solutions for their clients. They help the homeowners they work with acquire the resources, knowledge, and experience they’ll need to continue to help themselves and maintain their newly-rehabilitated homes over the long term.
In its 10-year history, Emmanuel’s Hammer has rehabilitated or rebuilt over 30 homes. The organization helps homeowners in need by bringing together a committed group of volunteers and partner organizations, including churches, government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, individual donors, builders, building suppliers, skilled tradesmen, and citizen volunteers.
