Cason Development Group continues Cottontown redevelopment

June 18, 2019

A new tenant is coming to the city’s Historic Cottontown Neighborhood. Columbia Printing & Graphics will be adjacent to Indah Coffee and Circa Barber Shop in the redeveloped Dunn Electric Co. building.

The 2,150-square-foot space is 2238 Sumter St., Suite C. Cason Development Group purchased the Dunn Electric building in 2016 from Joe W. “Bill” Dunn and its adaptive reuse continued the revitalization of the Cottontown business district started by the War Mouth restaurant. The original Dunn building was opened in 1945 and the section of the building that will house Columbia Printing & Graphics was built in the late 1960s.

Cason expects the renovation to be completed within the next week. Columbia Printing & Graphics will be the third tenant for Cason in the redeveloped building.

“We are excited about this new retail use coming to the Cottontown area,” said Frank Cason, . ”It is encouraging to see a long-standing businesses like Columbia Printing & Graphics desiring to move to that area of town and invest money for the long term. We have no doubt that they will be a welcomed addition to the already thriving small business community that has been established in Cottontown.”

Columbia Printing & Graphics, established in 1978, will relocate from 1204 Sumter St. between Gervais and Lady streets. The Cottontown location will provide more usable space for a business that has undergone significant expansion, said owner Scott DeRidder. “We have increased our lines of business to offer high speed color and black and white digital, offset, and wide format printing. We also print legal documents for attorneys along the east coast, and we offer a full line of promotional products.” DeRidder is excited about relocating to the revitalized Cottontown business district. “We’re located between Indah and A Taste of the South; we feel like that is a perfect move for us. We’re also excited about being with other locally owned businesses.”

The new business location is planning to open on June 24.

The remodeled space uses much of the woodwork from the Dunn Electric building. “We’ve been able to reuse almost everything that was stored in the building including all of the wood and light fixtures,” DeRidder said. “We just felt like it was important to reuse as much of the building materials as possible to keep the character of the era. We hope our finished space is something of which Mr. Dunn will be proud.”
