CCSD Executive Director Anita Huggins appointed acting Principal at Moultrie Middle School

July 1, 2019

Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced that Anita Huggins, the current Executive Director of School Support, will also serve as the Acting Principal of Moultrie Middle School during the 2019-20 school year. Huggins will commit her time to serving Moultrie’s community of learners while also working on mission critical projects on behalf of CCSD.

Huggins assumes the principal position most recently vacated by Ryan Cumback, the newly appointed principal of West Ashley High School. While she fills this role, CCSD will continue to advertise and recruit for a highly qualified candidate to permanently lead Moultrie.

A former English teacher, Master Teacher, principal, and Director, Huggins is an accomplished educator with 21 years of experience in education; 19 of those years have been in CCSD.

In her current position as Executive Director of School Support, Huggins has served in various CCSD schools and communities, including Simmons Pinckney Middle School, Burke High School, Burns Elementary School, and Camp Road Middle School. Prior to this work and for over 12 years, she trained hundreds of teachers and administrators from all of CCSD’s schools in how to effectively plan for instruction, deliver instruction, and develop conducive environments for learners as the Executive Director of Educator Office of Strategy and Communications. In that role, Huggins was instrumental in developing districtwide systems for teacher development, support, and recognition.

Over the course of her career, Huggins has presented at numerous conferences, served as guest lecturer, facilitated and served on various panels, as well as co-authored journal articles to help grow and support aspiring, novice, and veteran educators. However, it was her work as principal, leading and helping grow the Scholars Academy, as well as her work as an English teacher in Charleston’s classrooms that Ms. Huggins believes most prepared her for this recent appointment.

According to Superintendent, Gerrita Postlewait, “Mrs. Huggins’ proven leadership ability, will ensure that Moultrie scholars and educators will continue to achieve at high levels.” Huggins holds bachelor’s degrees in both English and Secondary Education, along with a master’s degree in Secondary Administration. She and her husband have three children, all of whom attend CCSD schools.
