Six South Carolina students receive college scholarships from Workers’ Compensation Insurer

SCHB Self Insurers Fund announced the recipients of their 2019 Scholarship Program. Six 2019 high school graduates were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship. An independent panel of judges evaluated each student’s commitment to educational excellence, community service, and extracurricular activities. This year’s scholarship recipients are:

  • Rachel Evatt of Columbia
  • Nicholas “Cole” Epting of West Columbia
  • Austin Boone of Lancaster
  • Michael “Nelson” Senn of Greer
  • Calista Clekis of Johns Island
  • Juliana Suriano of Myrtle Beach

“We are delighted to present college scholarships to these deserving students,” said SCHB Self Insurers Fund Board Chairman, Herb Witter. “These students have demonstrated a commitment to school involvement, scholastic accomplishment, leadership, and community service. We are extremely proud of their dedication and continuous effort to work hard both inside and outside the classroom.”

A celebratory scholarship dinner honoring the recipients was held on June 26, 2019 at The Palmetto Club in Columbia, South Carolina.

Rachel Evatt, a graduate of Dreher High School, will continue studies in business at Wofford College during her sophomore year. Rachel is the daughter of Katie and Jim Evatt. Jim Evatt is the owner of Palmetto Construction and Renovation and is a SCHB Self Insurers Fund policyholder.

Nicholas “Cole” Epting is a graduate of Gray Collegiate Academy and will attend Clemson University this fall. He is the son of Mitzi and Charles Epting. Charles is the president of Taurus Construction, Inc., and a SCHB Self Insurers Fund policyholder.

Austin Boone is a graduate of Buford High School and will attend the University of South Carolina this fall. He is the son of Shelia and Stevie Boone. Stevie is the owner of SBC Custom Homes and is a SCHB Self Insurers Fund policyholder.

Michael “Nelson” Senn is a graduate of Riverside High School and will attend Presbyterian College this fall. He is the son Adair and Michael Senn and grandson of Keith Smith. Keith is the owner of Keith Smith Builders and a SCHB Self Insurers Fund policyholder.

Calista Clekis is a graduate of James Island Charter High School and will attend the University of South Carolina this fall. She is the daughter of Lori and Nicholas Clekis and granddaughter of Jim Galligher. Jim is a partner with Campbell-Gallagher Construction and a SCHB Self Insurers Fund policyholder.

Juliana Suriano is a graduate of Carolina Forest High School and will attend Regent University this fall. She is the daughter of Paula and Thomas Suriano. Thomas is the president of Suriano Homes, Inc., and a SCHB Self Insurers Fund policyholder.
