Be part of a $50,000 challenge benefiting Prisma Health Cancer Centers

Prisma Health Midlands Foundation has received a $50,000 challenge gift to help grow The Atrium Society and The Cavalry, annual giving societies benefiting Prisma Health Cancer Centers. The challenge gift was given anonymously by two family foundations, with a shared desire to engage community donors for the Cancer Centers and draw attention to the important role of philanthropy in funding advancements in cancer care.
Carol and Lentz Ivey, co-chairs of The Atrium Society and Mary Ellen and Brian Barnwell, co-chairs of The Cavalry, invite the community to make a gift to the challenge campaign. New and increased pledges to The Atrium Society and The Cavalry will be matched dollar-for-dollar, with up to $50,000 available in matching funds. Gifts of any amount also will be matched, and donors who give at or above the membership level ($1,000 for The Atrium Society and $500 for The Cavalry) will receive membership benefits described at PrismaHealthMidlandsFoundation.org.
Thanks to the generosity of members of The Atrium Society and The Cavalry and an additional $50,000 gift from the anonymous family foundations earlier this year, Prisma Health Midlands Foundation is funding two new projects for the Cancer Centers—a Sentimag® breast cancer localization system to improve care for breast cancer patients undergoing surgery and a rigid bronchoscopy set to offer advanced technology to treat lung cancer patients with windpipe tumors. The expected cost to fund these two projects is approximately $112,000. Additional community support through the challenge will help fund other advancements in patient care.
Prisma Health Cancer Centers is one of the largest cancer programs in the Southeast. More than 3,000 patients are diagnosed and treated each year. According to Julian A. Kim, MD, MS senior medical director for Oncology, Palmetto Health—USC Medical Group, funding this equipment will offer new treatments previously unavailable to cancer patients in our community.
“For years, the Foundation has supported Midlands cancer patients and their families in all aspects of cancer care—early detection, prevention, innovative treatments and survivorship,” said Dr. Kim. “We are once again indebted to the Foundation. Together, we help save lives and provide comfort to those who are on their journey.”
