Palmetto LUNA Arts Collection coming to Richland Library during Hispanic Heritage Month

August 20, 2019

In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, preparations are underway for a new exhibit that nurtures and promotes the work of Latinx artists. The Palmetto LUNA Arts Collection goes on display Tuesday, September 3 in The Gallery at Richland Library.

From New York City to Mexico City, the Palmetto LUNA Arts Collection brings Latinx artists to South Carolina and provides them a space for dialogue with the Latinx community here in our state while, at the same time, developing an understanding of Latinx arts and culture among the general public. There are nearly two dozen pieces to view that consist of paintings, mixed media and sculptures.

The exhibit is the result of 10 years of collaboration among 15 different artists from North, Central and South America. Some of the names include: Valerie Aranda (USA); Edgar Cano (Mexico); Ernesto Cuevas (Mexico/USA); Diana Farfán (Colombia) and Pedro Rodríguez (Puerto Rico).

Join us for an opening reception from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Friday, September 6 at our Main location (1431 Assembly Street) to meet and interact with the artists. The after-hours event is free and open to the public.

The Palmetto LUNA Arts Collection runs through Sunday, September 29. For a list of other cultural programming planned across our library system in September, please visit richlandlibrary.com.
