Terminix, Columbia College partner to provide 30,000 meals to students

August 26, 2019

Students in Richland County returned to school last week and Terminix Service, Inc.  is doing its part to eliminate a pest that plagues far too many local students, hunger. Terminix is partnering with the Columbia College Center for Leadership and Social Change (CLSC) and other Columbia-based businesses to provide 30,000 meals to Richland School District One. They hosted a Hunger Project event on August 24,

“It is well known that hunger has a negative impact on a child’s ability to learn,” said Lex Knox, chairman and CEO. “As a locally owned and operated business in this community for more than 70 years, we want to do our part to make sure that children in our community have the fuel and nutrition they need to focus on learning this new school year, without the worry and distraction of hunger.”

The Hunger Project event took place in the Godbold Center located on the Columbia College campus.

A Hunger Project is a volunteer-driven meal packing event directed by, Feeding Children Everywhere (FCE), a national nonprofit dedicated to fighting child hunger around the world. According to the website, FCE partners with a local host site to help prepare a venue and bring the food prep supplies needed to prepare the meals. The volunteer host site is responsible for recruiting volunteers, raising necessary funding and providing tables for volunteers to use. The result is a high-energy, hands-on meal packing event that empowers volunteers to make a difference in the fight against hunger.
