August 28, 2019

This is the largest donation given to the Columbia Fisher House to date

Samsung’s Vice President of Strategic Communications, Megan Pollock, announced a $100,000 donation to the forthcoming Fisher House in Columbia, S.C. First Lady Peggy McMaster and Bill Dukes, Chairman of Friends of Fisher House Columbia, attended the announcement.

Fisher House is a national foundation that builds homes where military and veteran’s families can comfortably stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. The Columbia location will be built on the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center property on Garners Ferry Road.

“Supporting the Fisher House initiative in Columbia is incredibly important to the Samsung family,” Megan Pollock, vice president of strategic communications at Samsung, said. “Since making Newberry our home to Samsung’s first home appliance manufacturing facility, we have continued to support the local community and more specifically veterans and their families across the Midlands.”

Since 2017, Samsung has supported Fisher House in Charleston, S.C., Harvest Hope Food Bank, local American Legion chapters, Boys Farm and many more local organizations across South Carolina. This substantial donation to the Fisher House brings the Columbia location closer to the necessary funds to break ground on this life-changing resource provided to local service members, veterans and families. With more than 80-thousand veterans living in South Carolina alone, the Columbia home will be a tremendous source of support to the community in the years to come.

Samsung-Fisher House Partnership

Columbia Fisher House is the third of four new homes built with Samsung’s support since their financial and technology partnership with Fisher House Foundation began in 2015, including Charleston, SC and Palo Alto, CA.  Samsung’s technology partnership with Fisher House Foundation has also included refurbishing and outfitting many of the existing Fisher Houses with brand new, state-of-the-art Samsung home appliances, televisions, KNOX-secured tablets and other personal electronics.  Samsung’s curation of a suite of apps for use on more than 250 Samsung tablets has enabled more than 10,000 families nationwide to more effectively communicate back home to loved ones, neighbors, employers, and teachers, as well as to assist in the management of medical care, finances, and education.
